CBSE Mandatory Public Disclosure on Your School Website: A Checklist

Short answer: every CBSE-affiliated school publishes a mandatory public disclosure on its own website, in the format generated through CBSE's SARAS portal (Appendix IX). It has five parts: general information, documents, results and academics, teaching staff, and infrastructure. Each document must open from a link on the school's website and be kept current.
What the mandatory public disclosure is
It is a single page that lets parents, CBSE and anyone else check a school's affiliation, safety certificates, fees, results, staff and facilities. The school fills in the details on SARAS, and the same information, with links to the actual documents, appears on the school website. Below is what each section asks for, so you can check your own page against it.
A: General information
- Name of the school
- Affiliation number and school code (if applicable)
- Complete address with PIN code
- Principal's name and qualification
- School email ID and contact numbers
B: Documents and information
Each item is a link to the uploaded document on your school's website:
- Affiliation or upgradation letter, and the recent extension of affiliation, if any
- Society, trust or company registration or renewal certificate
- No objection certificate (NOC) from the state government or UT, if applicable
- Recognition certificate under the RTE Act, 2009, and its renewal if applicable
- Valid building safety certificate as per the National Building Code
- Valid fire safety certificate from the competent authority
- DEO certificate submitted for affiliation, upgradation or extension, or the school's self-certification
- Valid water, health and sanitation certificates
The format notes that these copies are self-attested by the chairman, manager or secretary and the principal.
C: Results and academics
- Fee structure of the school
- Annual academic calendar
- List of the School Management Committee (SMC)
- List of Parents Teachers Association (PTA) members
- Board examination results for the last three years: registered students, students passed and pass percentage, for Class X and Class XII as applicable
D: Teaching staff
- Principal
- Total number of teachers, split into PGT, TGT and PRT
- Teacher-section ratio
- Details of the special educator
- Details of the counsellor and wellness teacher
E: School infrastructure
- Total campus area (square metres)
- Number and size of classrooms
- Number and size of laboratories, including computer labs
- Internet facility (yes or no)
- Number of girls' and boys' toilets
- Link to a YouTube video of the inspection of the school covering its infrastructure
Common mistakes we see on school websites
- Expired certificates. The fire or building safety certificate was renewed, but the website still shows last year's copy.
- Broken links. The disclosure lists a document whose link opens nothing, often after a website was rebuilt.
- Scanned pages too large to open on a phone. Parents mostly check on mobile data; compress each PDF.
- The page is hard to find. Put "Mandatory Disclosure" in the main menu or footer, not three clicks deep.
- Different details in different places. The address, phone and principal's name should match on SARAS, the disclosure page and the rest of the site.
Questions principals ask us
Where does the disclosure format come from?
The format is generated through CBSE's SARAS portal. The school fills in the details there and publishes the same information, with links to its documents, on the school website.
Do the documents need to be attested?
Yes. The format notes that schools must upload self-attested copies of the listed documents, signed by the chairman, manager or secretary and the principal, and that a school is liable for action if uploaded documents are found not to be genuine.
How often should the page be updated?
Whenever something in it changes: a renewed fire or building safety certificate, a new fee structure, a new academic calendar, new SMC or PTA members, or a new board result.
Can you set this page up on our existing website?
Usually yes. We check what your current site allows; if it cannot host documents properly, we rebuild the disclosure page or the whole site.
Rules can change. Always check the current format on SARAS and circulars on cbse.gov.in.
